Many people are unaware of the fact that textured ceilings can be extremely effective, but once they know how, you will never want to install hardwood flooring again. Read on for a few different ways to achieve this look in your home.
The first thing to do is to have a wall in your home already textured. If there is a bare ceiling in your hallway, then you may want to start there. Mix the paste in a large bucket with water, and with the trowel mix a tiny bit of the paste onto the wall as evenly as possible. Next, add some paste to a piece of glass with the same mixture and apply this evenly to your ceiling. Finally, remove the mixture and allow the glass to dry.
The next step would be to apply wallpaper type material to your ceiling. The most popular of these is vinyl ceiling tiles, but if you don’t have a lot of space, then you can use wallpaper type material for any type of ceiling, including your attic or basement. You should work on the walls as if you were sanding them down, so that the textured effect will be as close to the actual surface of the ceiling. To give your ceiling a more polished and professional look, you may want to coat the material with wallpaper type paint and sealer. Allow to dry completely before you install wallpaper-type tiles.
Once you have finished, you should sand down all the surfaces where you applied the texture to. If you do not have a trowel, then you can use a hand held carpet sander. Make sure that you sand down the areas completely, because if you don’t, your textured ceiling will appear flat and dull.
If you have a wall that has not yet been textured, then you will want to apply the wallpaper type finish. This can be done with a primer type product such as the one found at most hardware stores. If you have used a primer, make sure to apply the finish product on both sides of the wall at least one coat at a time.
Textured ceiling finishes are quite easy to use. They don’t require any skills or tools, and once you have used a couple of coats, you will quickly see the difference in the way the ceiling looks.
